About the Author
J. Wayne Fears is the author of four outdoor cookbooks and is a member of the International Dutch Oven Society. He has served as a judge at many cook-offs, including the National Cornbread Cook-Off. An accomplished writer and skilled outdoorsman, Fears has authored more than thirty-two books on a variety of outdoor subjects and more than 6,100 magazine articles. He has been enshrined in the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame and has received numerous awards for his writing. Fears resides in Huntsville, Alabama.

this should be subtitled "how to combine mixes". there should also be a warning about all the specific brands they promote, just a cursory run through referred to six specific brands - and even more generic "mixes". the recipes would have to be converted for a real kitchen before I could even try them.
If you would like to know the history of dutch ovens, you may find this book interesting, but the information is ancient and few recipes are included. I do not recommend purchasing this book.
More a history book then a cookbook. Recipes are buried in stories of how it was developed and used through the ages.
I was surprised how it was written more like a biography on Dutch Oven cooking in J. Wayne Fears life. The receipes were good but not enough of them. I wanted him to get to the point so it seems I skipped around a lot!

If you are looking for history of dutch oven cooking and how to cook then the book is ok. I was looking for more outdoor recipes so I was a little disappointed.
Good basic history and information on Dutch ovens, Light on reciepes
Not sure what I expected. Although, I was disappointed my the number of recipes in the book I felt there could be more.. there was a lot of info about Dutch ovens and the condition of the book was as promised.
