This subject area I could have done a Doctorate thesis on! My self talk that I tolerated was the worst ever! I suffered from not talking to people who looked too important or who really had it "together". (The one positive is that it made me try harder to succeed - which I did.)Now however, thanks to Ian, I am correcting my self talk to be more accurate and factual, rather than continuing to beat myself up for the rest of my life! Onward!
I write about these same things as the author does. And I evaluate everything based upon its usefulness/effectiveness - the results that can and are likely to be harvested from the reading.I found the book to have several very useful exercises that were very doable (and fairly likely to be done). And there were some very useful insights that I will add to my repertoire.Bottomline, I would recommend that you read this book AND that you implement it. (It would probably be best to set up a notebook to keep everything accessible and referenceable, for continued use to the level of true mastery in this vital area.)Keith D. Garrick
I would recommend this book to those who have noticed the amount of their negative and harmful self-talk and are ready to taka action to change it. I have taken action before this book, and I found this as a good confirmation of what I have done and that I have done it the right way. I was happy to see that this book was based on research and how that research backed up the instructions and tasks given in the book.
I like books that are practical and concrete. Books of Ian are exactly like this. They are not long, in fact, they feel to be short, but it's because there is no fluff. It's a good use of your time to grab this book and read it, as it gives a huge amount of value.

This is a book that combines the two branches of psychology that were included in my college education; Cognitive and Positive. Positive for what is right and good with you, and cognitive for those times your behavior needs a little tuning up. This writing is much better than my Cognitive and Positive books I used in school only smaller and much cheaper. I like the way Ian gets to the point quickly and succinctly. I will refer to for those times I might need a little "mental tune-up."

You may not even be aware of it and most likely it is a negative voice. I live in a world with many family and friends being more negative than positive with me. So the last thing I need is to be negative with myself too. I found this book to be very easy to listen to and ably. Do you know a teenager? Get them this book someday they will thank you. Randy Streu is the narrator for this audiobook and his voice is perfect for this audiobook, easy to listen to and follow. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
