This books covers it all! Having been teaching this incredible sport called kiteboarding for 8+ years I must say, nothing can replace lessons and good instruction. However this book comes quite close to doing so.When students come to lessons with the knowledge available to them in this book they are up and riding in no time. The lessons end up being more review and the information sticks. Working with students who've done their research is such a pleasure. This book can aide you in progressing through lessons much faster and also help to avoid some unnecessary frustrating days spent swimming back to shore or wrestling with your gear. An educated kiteboarder is much more likely to become a proficient Kiteboarder and it only helps the individual to reaching their kiteboarding goals. Whether those goals be just riding/tacking upwind, jumping 5 feet of the water or sending it for a massive boost off a wave and getting a birds eye view of the lay of the land.From the minute I first saw kiteboarding I knew it had to be one of the most exciting activities available to man. 11 years later after kiting 100+ spots around the country and having lived in 5 different states within every corner of the US chasing good conditions, I can confirm that is indeed the case.Hope to see you on the water or on the shores/slopes of a kite beach sometime soon.
I’m planning for our trip to Hawaii and as a Florida girl that doesn’t step foot in the water (I know, strange), I am looking for fun activities to do on the beach. Kitesurfing came up as an option so I grabbed this book to see “what I am getting myself into,†which happens to be Chapter 1!So, here it goes. What I liked about the book is it is an easy read. The author speaks to people like me that know nothing about kiteboarding. He lays out the facts in a logical order and it was easy for me to follow.What I didn’t like about the book is that he is a little too technical at times. While I think it’s important to know your equipment and what you are working with, this is information that is left to the lessons you have to take in kiteboarding (and the lessons the author himself tells you take even though this is a “how to†book). Plus, unless you have a kiteboard in front of you, it’s hard to follow what he is talking about.In the end, I don’t think kiteboarding is for me, so I’ll try to figure out something else to do on the beaches of Hawaii.
I thought the book kitsurf was quick easy to understand. I like the fact that the author gave advice on the fitness level, the fack that you don't need to buy the best of the best gear to get started!! The author also did not put a age limit on this!!! I would really like to try this and glad I read the book first... I tend to just try things on my own and not want to pay for lessons but after reading the book.".. I am getting lessons!!! Kitesurf also was informative and easy to understand all the basics of starting!!! If you are new to this sport it's a good book to read before you envest on the best gear!! Start with the basics and build from there.
I very much enjoyed the format of this book, as I am truly a beginner and at this time just seeking information prior to getting involved in the sport. This book gives clear outlines and introduction and I believe is better preparing me for my lessons. Most of all I appreciate the many references for safety and the need for professional instruction, which again... As a novice seems obvious, but probably can't be overstated. Looking forward to taking this book's info with me to my kite surf clinic and will update my review after I've really had some practical experience with it. (But I do love the layout of the book and pictures!)
This was a total impulse buy for me. Kitesurfing is something I've been curious about, but never really pursued before. Mostly because I wouldn't even know where to start. For something I bought on impulse, this book paid off in a big way. It's not just an overview of what Kiting is, it also has a guide for how to get started (which I definitely needed). It also pointed out the existence of things like ground kiting and snow kiting, which I never even thought about. It seemed so obvious once I read about them, but somehow it never occurred to me that they existed. Something new to try! After I get a handle on Kitesurfing, of course.
I love to learn new things and read about interesting subjects that are foreign to me. My friend Jade recommended I check this out since she had read and enjoyed it recently. When I first started reading it, I had no idea what kitesurfing was and now I feel like an aficionado. Everything was really easy to understand and follow along with and I can't wait to try it out for myself someday soon!
A friend of mine got me interested in kite surfing about a year ago and my first attempts could have made a funniest home videos show. I didn't think it was possible to swallow that much water. I picked up this book hoping to learn a few tips and tricks and got so much more. It's obvious that Shawn is an expert and the text plus illustrations helped me understand the various principals better than anything my friend showed me. I'll head back to see my friend in a few months and thanks to this book, I'll have a few tricks up my sleeve.
I have seen people kitesurfing on the beach and I really wanted to try it. I made a list of all the things in life that I wanted to try and haven't, and that was one of them. So, I set out to see how I could learn. I found this book to get me started and I was so glad that I did. Having an overview of my goals and the steps I'll need to make in taking kitesurfing up is exactly what I needed. The writing is concise and the information is clearly communicated. I finished my first reading in one sitting and I'll be reading it again. I would recommend this to anyone interested in knowing what it takes to get going on kitesurfing.
